Ronald L. Smith – La Vernia News

1928-2022
Ronald L. Smith, age 94, passed away on Friday, Aug. 19, 2022, in San Antonio, Texas. Ronald was born on April 9, 1928, in London, England, to Elizabeth Ann Easton and Reginald Alfred Smith.
“Ron,” as he was known to many of his friends, lived and worked in England until 1986, when he immigrated to Texas with his wife, Margaret.
In England, enlisted into the General Service Corps Embodied Territorial Army, he was trained and then sent to Royal Corps of Signals and finally into the Royal Army Reserve. Ron loved to share with people some of his Morse code. He then went to college in London and began a career as a Chartered Accountant.
As a handsome young man, he played competitive badminton in the county of Kent and traveled many European countries on his motorcycle. He also built two Lotus Elan kit cars in his garage in Orpington, Kent.
He met and married Margaret in 1968.
He emigrated to Texas, where he built his house and managed a tax-preparation office. He also operated the Lake Valley Water Co. for 20 years. Ron was always known for his wicked sense of humor and dirty Irish songs and limericks that he would love to share with friends and family. Ron would also help others when called; he was very handy and could mend anything or find an ingenious way to fix a problem.
He was preceded in death by his wife, Margaret Smith, and parents, Elizabeth Ann Easton and Reginald Alfred Smith.
Ronald is survived by his daughter, Shelly Lee Rote and her husband DeWitt; granddaughters Sophie Christine Godwin and Lucy Anne Rote; and grandson, William Parker Rote. He loved his family and would always want to make sure that everyone was OK.
