Pune, 28th November 2022: The municipality will take 257 cars on lease for seven years for the transportation of waste. An expenditure of Rs 323 crores is expected for this. The expenditure has been approved by the Municipal Corporation.

Currently, 698 vehicles are being used for the transportation of solid waste generated daily in the city. Out of them, 161 cars have a lifespan of more than 15 years. Due to the end of the life of cars, the use of these cars for waste transportation is becoming somewhat difficult for municipal corporations. Therefore, the solid waste management department decided to hire vehicles for waste collection and transportation. A tender process was also implemented for that. This proposal was approved in the standing committee meeting.

2,200 tons of waste is generated in the city every day. The municipal corporation needs about 850 vehicles, like big dumpers, compactors, and others, to carry this waste to the ramps and garbage plants in different parts of the city. There are 698 vehicles owned by the municipality for waste transportation, and 150 vehicles are being taken on lease as per requirement. 50 vehicles, including Refuse Collector (19), Compactor (11), and Ghantagadi (20) will be taken on lease for seven years. Out of this, Swayambhu Transport was given a work of Rs 64,29,83,132. Sumit Facility Limited is going to give 16 collectors, 13 compactors, and other facilities to the municipal corporation under a lease agreement for seven years. For this, an expenditure of Rs 65,62,31,259 is expected.

Five separate tenders were floated for leasing the vehicles for seven years. All those tenders were approved. According to the inflation formula, the municipality will pay an additional amount to these tenderers for seven years.
