Pune: Policenama online – Pune Crime News | How much information to share on social media has become a cause of concern, nowadays. In a shocking incident, a white collar criminal demanded an extortion of Rs 30 lakh from a famous chartered accountant (CA) in the city by stealing details about his children from social media. In this case, the police team has arrested Kiran Ramdas Biradar (24) from Latur.
The 52-year-old CA living in Mukund Nagar lodged a complaint. According to the police, accused Kiran Biradar is a B Sc graduate. He collects data about professionals from Facebook and other social media. After getting data, he gets their contact number and demands ransom from them. The complainant had posted on his Facebook that his son studies in Kolkata. The accused got the complainant’s phone number and called him on WhatsApp. A ransom of Rs 30 lakh was demanded from him. He sent messages threatening to kill his son in Kolkata. if the demand was ignored.
The complainant told this to the anti-extortion team. The police laid a trap. The complainant agreed to pay the ransom. He produced fake notes of Rs10 lakhs. He was asked to keep the bag of money in a bush under Garware bridge in Deccan as per instructions issued by the accused. Accordingly, the complainant kept the bag at 7.30 am on Thursday. The police laid a trap in the surrounding area.
