Subedar Major Tsewang Murop, a gallant Kargil War hero who received the prestigious Vir Chakra award, has met an untimely demise in a road accident near Leh, as per Army officials. The tragic news has caused deep sorrow among the Indian Army and its ranks.
Expressing condolences on the demise of Subedar Major Morup, the Army Chief Gen Manoj Pande and all members of the Indian Army mourned his passing. An official from the Army announced, “Kargil war hero Subedar Major Tsewang Murop, Vir Chakra, lost his life in a road accident last night near Leh.”
Lt Gen Rashim Bali, Commander of the Army’s Leh-based Fire and Fury Corps, paid a visit to Murop’s family, including his father Naib Subedar (retd) Chhering Mutup, and conveyed his deepest sympathies on behalf of the entire Army. It is noteworthy that Murop’s father is an Ashok Chakra awardee. The exact details of the accident have not yet been known.

The Ladakh Scouts, the regiment to which Murop belonged, expressed their grief on social media. In their tweet, they wrote, “Last night, we lost Sub Maj Tsewang Morup, Vir Chakra, hero of Kargil War and son of Naib Subedar Chhering Mutup, Ashok Chakra, to a tragic accident. Condolences to the most decorated family of the country. Rest in peace braveheart, Great loss to Army, Ladakh Scouts and the Nation.”
