JSA elevated six to equity partnership at JSA – Kumarmanglam Vijay, Manish Mishra, Sidharth Sethi, Tirthankar Datta, Utsav Johri, and Vaibhav Choukse have been elected to the JSA partnership with effect from 1 April 2023. With these partner elevations, the total number of equity partners at JSA will be 49.
Commenting on the equity partner promotions, Amit Kapur and Vivek Chandy, the Joint Managing Partners, said:

Brief biographies of the new equity partners are set out below.
Kumarmanglam Vijay
Corporate – Direct Tax
Gurugram
Kumarmanglam has extensive experience in matters relating to direct and indirect taxation (including international taxation, transfer pricing, litigation and M&A tax), Accounting, and Corporate Law including mergers and acquisition, joint ventures, foreign investments, market entry strategy, and corporate restructuring.
He has dealt with several high-profile cases involving international tax and corporate tax advisory. He has advised on tax litigation before the Dispute Resolution Panel as well as the Income Tax Appellate Tribunal. He is also engaged in representing clients in tax advocacy before the government for bringing in changes in fiscal laws.
Kumarmanglam has worked on a number of Court approved reorganization matters encompassing planning, as well as execution for listed as well as unlisted telecom companies, IteS firms, and companies in manufacturing, service and infrastructure sectors.
He is a qualified Chartered Accountant and completed his LLB from CCS University, Uttar Pradesh in 2015. He is a member of the Bar Council of Delhi.
Manish Mishra
Corporate – Indirect Tax

Manish has more than 23 years of experience in Indirect taxation across industry, consulting and law firms. Manish’s area of expertise includes advising clients on tax- efficient transaction planning, logistics and supply-chain management and contract drafting and reviews. He regularly appears before various adjudicating and appellate forums for clients in tax related litigation.
Manish has been actively involved in policy formulation and advocacy with the policymakers representing various industry associations and chambers. He has also, regularly contributed articles on topical tax issues in various publications and made presentations on relevant tax issues at various business chambers/ forums.
He is a member of The Bar Council of Delhi and the Indirect tax Council at ASSOCHAM. He completed his LLB from CCS University, Uttar Pradesh in 2012.
Tirthankar Datta
Banking & Finance

Tirthankar specialises in banking & finance, financial services, and cross border investments. He has extensive experience in structured debt transactions including all manner of finance related transactions (secured, limited recourse and syndicated), project finance, acquisition finance, structured finance, real estate financing, listed and unlisted corporate bonds / non-convertible debentures (private placement), insolvency and debt restructuring and other general banking and fintech products.
He has extensive experience in real estate financing including both construction finance as well as lease rental discounting facilities, in the residential, commercial and retail sectors as well as lending to financial institutions (such as non-banking finance companies), debt capital markets, leverage finance and acquisition finance transactions.
He is a member of the Bar Council of Maharashtra & Goa. He completed his LL.B. from National University of Juridical Sciences, West Bengal in 2008.
Utsav Johri
Banking & Finance
Mumbai
Utsav’s practice focuses on structured finance, acquisition finance, leveraged buyouts, project finance, cross border finance, real estate financing, debt restructuring and debt capital markets. He advises various Indian and international banks, NBFCs, financial institutions, credit funds, distressed asset funds and Indian borrowers.
He has also been actively involved in various debt restructuring and security enforcement assignments. He also represents resolution applicants, committee of creditors and insolvency resolution professionals in relation to insolvency resolution process under the Insolvency and Bankruptcy Code, 2016.
In addition, Utsav regularly advises domestic and international banks on all types of general banking products..
Utsav is an advocate on Record at the Supreme Court of India and is a member of the Bar Council of Maharashtra & Goa. He completed his LLB from National Law Institute University, Bhopal in 2008.
Sidharth Sethi
Disputes – Litigation and Arbitration

Sidharth’s practice covers diverse corporate commercial litigation, arbitration and alternative dispute resolution. He also advises and acts for clients in insolvency proceedings, global product liability litigations, constitutional & administrative law litigations, proceedings related to penal laws, white-collar crimes and corporate and forensic investigations.
Sidharth has significant exposure to international arbitrations (domestic and foreign seated, and institutional as also ad hoc), involving disputes arising from joint venture agreements, shareholder agreements, share purchase agreements and various other commercial contracts.
Being also an Advocate-on-Record at the Supreme Court of India, he regularly appears before the Supreme Court. He also appears before different High Courts of India and various Tribunals and Commissions.
Sidharth is enrolled with the Bar Council of Himachal Pradesh and is a member of the Supreme Court Bar Association.
Sidharth completed his BSL., LL.B. from ILS Law College, Pune in 2007; and LL.M. from Jindal Global Law School.
Sidharth is also a published author.
Vaibhav Choukse
Competition

Vaibhav’s practice focuses on complex enforcement and merger control cases and represents and advises clients on a broad range of competition law issues spanning across several sectors. He has handled several high-profile competition litigations in various fora including the Competition Commission of India (CCI) and the appellate courts.
On the enforcement side, Vaibhav routinely advises leading multinational and industry associations on matters ranging from cartel, leniency, dawn raids, abuse of dominance, commercial agreements to competition compliance mandates.
He is a member of the Bar Council of Madhya Pradesh, International Bar Association (IBA) and the Competition Law Bar Association (India).
He completed his LL.B. from NLC, Bharati Vidyapeeth, Pune in 2008 and LL.M in Competition Law from Kings College, London in 2009.
